Decision-makers urged to share success for the good of the Asia-Pacific IT industry By MIS Asia Staff Writer
09 Apr 2009

Senior information technology executives in the Asia Pacific have been challenged to demonstrate their leadership, innovation and creativity by nominating their best projects for the MIS Asia magazine IT Excellence Awards 2009.

Nominations can be lodged at http://mis-asia.com/microsites/itexcellence09/home and the deadline is Friday, 22 May 2009.

With budgets under pressure in the current economic climate, demonstrating value through enterprise IT best practice is doubly important; the need for creative solutions is even more pronounced.

The challenge has come from Fairfax Business Media (Asia) director, Andrew Smart, who said the IT industry now needed, more than ever before, to learn from the ‘best of the best’.

“The times are tough, but knowledge is power and the industry needs to take note of their leaders, the agents of change and progress in major enterprises that are successfully responding to current challenges,” said Smart.

Sharing success

“Every year of these awards, we discover creative and innovative IT teams working together on exciting projects, and whether you are in Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, China, India or Indonesia – or elsewhere in Asia – now is the time to share your IT successes for the greater industry good.”

Smart said that, for the first time, separate IT Summit and IT Excellence Awards conferences would be held in three separate cities: Singapore (Friday, 24 July 2009), Malaysia (Tuesday, 28 July 2009) and Hong Kong (Thursday, 30 July 2009).

“Our panel of independent judges again expect to have a difficult job determining the winners,” said FBM (Asia) managing editor Ross O. Storey.  “Enterprises, vendors, public relations agencies and others are all free to make nominations, but they need to get them in by 22 May 2009 – less than five weeks away,” said Storey.

“Our readership surveys show that the most popular features of MIS Asia magazine are specific case studies, management features and executive profiles,” added Storey. “We want to highlight these outstanding performers, so you can make a difference by nominating your leaders for these awards and sharing your experience with industry peers.”

Unique and prestigious awards

The prestigious IT Excellence Awards, now in their seventh year, recognise Asian IT organisations and CIOs for excellence in management and for using information technology to help attain business goals.

Winners in 2008 included the National University of Singapore, Malaysia’s CIMB Bank, the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority and the Standard Chartered Bank of Thailand.

These coveted project-based awards are regarded as the premier accolade that specifically recognise organisations for management excellence in using IT to drive business value and to attain business goals.

Detailed profiles of the winning organisations and their projects will be progressively featured in MIS Asia magazine through the following year.
