HONG KONG, 3 FEBRUARY 2009 – Fuji Xerox, the Japan-based document management solutions provider, has won the Environmental Performance Award at the 2008 Hong Kong Awards for Industries.

The award recognises the company’s effective implementation of green strategies reflected by the company’s operations and in its customer offerings. The award also recognises the winner’s commitment in environmental conservation and compliance with environmental legislation.

Fuji Xerox is the first company in the document management and printing solution industry to win this government-supported award.

Joseph Yu, managing director of Fuji Xerox, Hong Kong, said: “We are exceptionally pleased that Fuji Xerox has been recognised for its comprehensive efforts in leading and improving eco-conscious operations, activities and products that emphasise respect for the environment.

“Our objective is to ensure we continually create greener document and office solutions, adding value not just to our customer but to our society as a whole.”

Zero landfill programme

Fuji Xerox Hong Kong established its Environmental Management Committee in 2003, which aims to facilitate the implementation of green strategies at all levels.

The committee is responsible for monitoring, reviewing and improving the organisation’s Environmental Management System. For example, the ‘Green Purchasing’ initiative was launched to ensure the company’s suppliers also comply with environmental performance standards.

Fuji Xerox’s ‘Zero Landfill’ programme collects used consumables to be broken down into 70 different categories including iron, copper, plastic and glass for recycling at its eco-manufacturing plant in Bangkok, Thailand.

In 2007, Fuji Xerox Hong Kong reduced its overall gas and electricity consumption by 10 per cent and will strive to further minimise the consumption through more green measures.

Demonstration of compliance to key environmental standards was also crucial to winning the award. Fuji Xerox has held the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System certification since 2003 and also the Forest Stewardship Council Chain-of-Custody Certification since 2007.

Fuji Xerox’s long list of environmental achievements includes receiving honours at the fourth Eco Products Awards as well as the Industrial Science & Technology Policy & Environmental Bureau Director-General’s Prize in Japan in 2007 for improving the environmental performance of the Product Life Cycle and reducing carbon dioxide emissions.
