HONG KONG, 29 JUNE 2009 — Nicholas Brooke, Hong Kong Science & Technology Parks' (Science Park) chairman, has been re-appointed for a two-year term, starting on July 1.
Brooke was first appointed by the chief executive of the Hong Kong government for a two-year term in 2007.
Rita Lau, secretary for commerce & economic development of the Hong Kong government said last Friday (June 26) that she was confident the Science & Technology Parks would continue to help Hong Kong make strong strides forward in innovation and technology development under Brooke's leadership.
The Hong Kong Science & Technology Parks Corporation, which began operations on May 7, 2001, manages the Science Park, three industrial estates and an InnoCentre, and supports innovation and technology development in Hong Kong.
The Science Parks provide services catering to the Hong Kong IT industry's needs, ranging from incubation programmes meant to nurture technology start-ups, the provision of premises and services in the Science Park for applied R&D activities, the creation and upkeep of design clusters, including innovation and electronics, information and communication technology, precision engineering, biotechnology and green technology.
Also re-appointed for two years have been current members Lee Shing-see, Joseph Pang, Alice Chin and Prof. Nancy Ip.
Newly appointed members include: Liu Sing-cheong, Agnes Mak and Prof. Kenneth Young. Their two-year terms also start on July 1.
