HONG KONG, 5 JANUARY 2009 - Hong Kong's Census and Statistics Department will introduce for the first time Web-based population census questionnaire in 2011.
Held once every decade, the population census was conducted in the form of face-to-face interview.
Fung Hing-wang, commissioner for Census and Statistics doesn't expect people to embrace online questionnaire overnight. "Take Canada as an example. Only 10 percent of the population actually did (online population census questionnaire)," said Fung during a recent meeting of Legislative Council's Panel on Financial Affairs." We expect a similar percentage of people in Hong Kong would want to do the same."
He added that the department's study on online population census systems and applications was kicked off last year and would be finished March this year.
