KUALA LUMPUR, 1 JULY 2009 – A free multilingual search platform has been launched by Malaysian tourism site VirtualMalaysia.com.

Google Maps partner VirtualMalaysia.com previewed its Google Mapplets, which is available in four languages – English, Malay, Chinese and Tamil. “We are honoured that VirtualMalaysia.com is one of the only four Malaysian companies selected to partner Google,” said VirtualMalaysia.com chief executive officer Rohizam Md Yusoff.

“Almost 80 per cent of VirtualMalaysia.com’s traffic comes through search engines and they consistently harness the power of search marketing to direct traffic to its portal,” said Yusoff, who said the site received 30 million monthly hits.

“We used Google Maps API on www.virtualmalaysia.com to show hundreds of points of interests across the country including landmarks, famous places, shopping locations, nature sports and parks, and culture and heritage sites,” he said.  “Website visitors from all over the world will now get a better virtual tour of Malaysia as a travel destination, while Malaysians can easily find many wonderful places to visit across their own country using this tool.”

“Travelling has been facilitated by a proliferation of a myriad of e-portals,” he added.  “The problem is that those who need relevant information must spend considerable time browsing the online environment, and the question of reliability always pops up.”
