KUALA LUMPUR, 9 SEPTEMBER 2009 -- Malaysia’s education ministry has chosen networking solutions firm 3Com to power 10 campus networks around the country.

“The tender is with Malaysia’s Institutes of Teacher Education (IPG), a teacher training institute under the purview of the Teacher Education Department within Malaysia’s Ministry of Education,” said 3Com Malaysia country manager, Marcus Lai.  “3Com will be providing products to power 10 campus networks nationwide.”

Lai said that under the contract, 3Com, together with partner Sigma Rectrix Systems (Malaysia), would develop a high-speed wired and wireless campus network for IPG’s campuses spanning from Sabah and Sarawak in East Malaysia to Perak, Kuala Lumpur, Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang in West Malaysia.

IPG was designed to enhance the teaching profession by offering pre-service and in-service training at various graduate levels such as certificate, diploma and degree levels.

Ministry’s goal

“IPG’s 10 campus networks would use the 3Com Switch 7758 modular gigabit chassis at the core together with its 4800G series switches that support 10 gigabit uplinks and up to 128 Gbps [gigabits per second] non-blocking bandwidth for high performance converged applications,” he added.

“Combined with 3Com’s managed wireless LAN [local area network] access points, the core-to-edge network will provide IPG a high availability network with fast, secure and reliable voice, data and video connectivity from anywhere and at anytime across the 10 campuses,” said Lai.

“With the new network, the ministry of education will be able to achieve its goal of placing graduate-level teachers in 100 per cent of all secondary schools and 50 per cent of all primary schools by next year,” he said.

I wanted to watch this movie because I read a blog that said: don’t let your boss watch "Up in the Air"? Why? I wanted to find out.
