Indians charge double that of Filipinos on average, but have a lower average feedback score By Carol Ko

HONG KONG, 17 DECEMBER 2008 – The popular countries for outsourcing work include India, the Philippines, Pakistan, the US, Canada, Russia, and Ukraine, according to a report by oDesk’s oConomy, a US-based marketplace for online workteams for employers outsourcing technology jobs to certified, freelance developers and programmers.

India focuses on software development

The rate of outsourcing to Philippines is growing faster than any other country. Its largest work category is Knowledge Processing Outsourcing (KPO), including data entry and virtual assistants. The country’s average feedback rating recently surpassed the oDesk average for the first time.

The level of outsourcing to India remains the highest in the industry boasting the highest number of new hires. Its largest work category is Software and Web Development.

The US has the greatest number of providers and highest average feedback rating, according to the oDesk report. Homeshoring within the US continues to gain momentum.

Web developers, software developers and consultants are earning nearly triple the rates of talented offshore writers and administrative assistants.  

India has largest pool of providers

The total number of providers, average hourly rate charge, and average feedback score of the seven featured countries are summarised below:

India

Total number of providers: 27,454

Average hourly rate charge: US$12.52

Average feedback score: 4.01 (out of 5.00)

Most common types of providers: Software developers


Philippines

Total number of providers: 17,213

Average hourly rate charge: US$6.33

Average feedback score: 4.30

Most common types of providers: Data entry professionals


Pakistan

Total number of providers: 5,960

Average hourly rate charge: US$11.13

Average feedback score: 4.36

Most common types of providers: Software developers/designers, followed by data entry professionals


USA

Total number of providers: 52,637

Average hourly rate charge: US$18.32

Average feedback score: 4.40

Most common types of providers: Data entry professionals, followed by consultants


Canada

Total number of providers: 3,581

Average hourly rate charge: US$19.60

Average feedback score: 4.32

Most common types of providers: Software developers, followed by data entry professionals


Russia

Total number of providers: 2,721

Average hourly rate charge: US$16.86

Average feedback score: 4.31

Most common types of providers: Software developers


Ukraine

Total number of providers: 2,929

Average hourly rate charge: US$15.96

Average feedback score: 4.36

Most common types of providers: Software developers
