HONG KONG, 6 JULY 2009 – Philippines-based telecommunications provider PLDT (Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company) will soon set up a telepresence public room in Southeast Asia.
The telepresence public room will connect PLDT’s facility in Makati, Philippines, to a global network of public telepresence rooms.
The realistic images and video clarity of telepresence enables participants to clearly see colleagues’ expressions and movements, while the CD-quality audio allows every spoken word to be clearly heard, compared to earlier conferencing solutions which suffered from poor quality connections, distorted sound and frequent dropped lines, factors that limited widespread use of conferencing services until now.
PLDT is one of the leading telecommunications providers in the country. Through its three principal business groups—fixed line, wireless and information communications technology—the telco offers a range of telecommunications services across the Philippines’ extensive fibre optic backbone and fixed line, cellular and satellite networks.
PLDT’s new Cisco TelePresence system was provided by Datacraft, a Singapore-based IT solutions and services provider wholly owned by South Africa-headquartered IT services and solution provider, Dimension Data.
“We are increasingly seeing clients across all sectors introducing the appealing TelePresence technology [for] faster decision-making process, enhanced teamwork and improved working relationships,” said Paul Dewhirst, general manager of Datacraft Philippines.
