Citrix is providing the IT backbone for the network of Point-of-Sale (POS) terminals for the licensed operator of Calvin Klein Jeans and Calvin Klein Underwear Warnaco Asia Ltd.
As per the agreement, Citrix is providing its virtualisation and networking solution for Warnaco's network of Point-of-Sale (POS) terminals across 650 stores in six Asia Pacific markets.
This solution will provide Warnaco with increased control, visibility, and cost savings.
Prior to the implementation of this solution, Warnaco spent considerable time in upgrading the POS terminals across the network in its chain of retail stores at Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia and China.
Using PC-based POS terminals also required a high number of IT staff in each market and was a time-consuming process.
"By virtualising our applications and servers, we're able to update the POS terminal network and add new applications whenever we need to," said Patrick Lamp, Information Technology director, Asia-Pacific, Warnaco Asia Ltd.
Total control of the upgrade process
Virtualisation of applications and servers gives Warnaco Asia total control of the upgrade process and the vast majority of its IT team can now be based in one physical location, Warnaco's Asia Pacific headquarters in Hong Kong.
Citrix's virtualised solution consists of Citrix XenServer, Citrix XenApp and Citrix NetScaler.
Thanks to the highly scalable solution, the company now requires only one member of IT staff for each remote location and plans to increase the number of POS nodes by the end of 2013.
Moreover, it allows travelling users to securely log in to the corporate network anytime from anywhere, through any device.
"The bold step of virtualising the POS terminals marks a real innovation, and underlines the many ways that virtualised solutions can help companies, regardless of size, industrial sector, or the geographies in which they operate," said Victor Wong, regional director, Hong Kong and Taiwan, Citrix. "This marks a real innovation, and underlines the many ways that virtualised solutions can help companies, regardless of size, industrial sector, or the geographies in which they operate."
