Properties and Application Fields of Silicon Carbide

Silicon carbide is quartz sand made of petroleum coke and wood chips. This material can be made by high-temperature smelting at a resistance furnace. It is not uncommon to find silicon carbide in nature. Moissanite’s main constituent is silicon carbide. The most popular and economically-friendly of all the modern non-oxide high-tech refractory substances, such as C or N, is silicon carbide.
It is abrasive, but also has other applications due to its excellent chemical properties. One unique way to apply silicon carbide powder on a turbine wheel and cylinder blocks is by using a special process. An inner wall will increase the abrasion resistance of the wheel and can extend its life expectancy by up to two times. This high-grade, heat-resistant, shock-resistant material is small, light, strong, and has a good energy-saving effect. The low-grade silicon carbide (containing approximately 85% SiC), is an effective deoxidizer. This can be used for accelerating the rate of steel production and chemical composition. Also, it’s easy to monitor and improve steel quality. A silicon carbide heating element can also be used to produce silicon carbide.

Silicon carbide products may be classified into several categories depending on their environment. It is used primarily for mechanical purposes. It can also be used to seal more mechanically. Customers may also request silicon carbide products in different shapes, including silicon carbide-shaped parts, silicon caride plates, silicon carbonide rings and silicon carbide bearings.

Silicon carbide ceramics can be widely used due to their characteristics of hardness, corrosion resistance and strength at high temperatures.

Silicon carbide ceramics have the following properties: high chemical resistance, high hardness, wear resistance and low friction coefficient. They are an excellent material to use as a sealing ring. The friction coefficient of silicon carbide ceramics when combined with graphite is lower than those of alumina and hard alloys. It is therefore suitable for use in environments with high PV values and that contain strong acids or alkalis.

There are four major areas where silicon carbide is used: functional ceramics; advanced refractories and abrasives; as well as metallurgical material.

1. Field of Abrasives and Abrasive

Silicon carbide is used in production wheel, sandpaper abrasive, belt, grinding blocks and polishing paste. It can also be used in photovoltaic product monocrystalline silicon, multicrystalline silicon, other piezoelectric crystal grinding.

2. The high refractories area

Silicon carbide is resistant to high temperatures, corrosion, heat, thermal conductivity and impact resistance. Silicon carbide can be used in indirect heating of high-temperature, non-ferrous metals smelting, such as aluminum electrolysis cell and vertical retort heater. Additionally, silicon carbide can be used as a highway and is one of the best materials to make aviation runway solar water heaters.

3. The chemical industry

Silicon carbide may be used as an antioxidant. The steel cast iron structure of modifiers can also be used to make silicon tetrachloride. Silicon carbide is the principal raw material used in the silicon industry. SiC is an active deoxidizer deoxidizer, which is different from carbon deoxidation and silicon powder. The physical and chemical characteristics of SiC are more stable and better than the old process. It is also less energy-intensive. Integrated steel-making is great for improving the economy, quality, productivity, working conditions, furnace efficiency.

4. FIELD – Non-ferrous Smelting

Silicon carbide can be used to heat high-temperature high-temperature materials. This includes aluminum electrolysis cell and active retort furnace.

5. Steel

Use of silicon carbide for thermal shock resistance, corrosion resistance and thermal conductivity increases service life.

6. Metallurgical beneficiation

With its wear resistance second only to diamond silicon carbide makes a great material for wear-resistant pipe and impeller, pump chamber, pump chamber, cycle, ore bucket liner. This material is ideal for aircraft runways as it offers a 5-20% wear rate, which makes it more durable than cast iron or rubber.

7. Brick wheel in the Building Materials Industry

Silicon carbide has high thermal conductivity and heat radiation characteristics. It is used in the manufacture of kiln furnishings sheet. The purpose is to decrease kiln capacities, load capacity, as well as improve product quality.

8. Schmuck

Synthetic Moissanite also called synthetic diamond adamantine, is the same luster as diamonds, stronger than imitations, and has a “fire color”.
