Surface Modification and Dispersion of Nano ATO


By modifying the surface of ATO powder, the agglomeration phenomenon during the dispersion process can be suppressed, and the character of the powder changes from hydrophilicity to lipophilicity, facilitating composite modification with polymer materials and improving the performance of the composite. Surface modification can be carried out simultaneously with dispersion, or it can be modified before dispersal. Commonly used modifiers include coupling agents, polymer modifiers, and long-chain organic acids, among which silane coupling agents have been reported most frequently. The grafting amount of silane coupling agent MPS (y methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane) onto the surface of nano ATO particles was studied. It was found that the surface modification process of nano ATO particles by MPS was much slower than that of both SiO2 and TO, and the maximum amount of MPS ultimately grafted onto the surface was relatively small. The author speculates that there are two possible reasons for this: first, the ATO surface is rich in Sb (I), while Sb (M) cannot bond with MPS; that is, the reaction point on the ATO surface is not sufficient to cover its surface completely; The second reason is that MPS is unable to penetrate some porous surfaces, resulting in this part of the surface not being coated. Using silane coupling agent KH570 to modify nano ATO, a nano ATO/mixed monomer (MMA/BA) dispersion with good stability was prepared through ultrasonic dispersion. The modified ATO particles were dispersed more uniformly, agglomerated less, and the average particle size was 70 nm. The above research results show that preparing stable nano ATO slurry usually requires a combination of high-speed dispersion, ultrasonic, and grinding methods. In addition, the type and dosage of dispersant are also necessary. The dispersant should have good compatibility with the system, and neither too much nor too little dosage can achieve stable dispersion of nanoparticles. Surface modification of nanoparticles can inhibit accumulation to a certain extent and improve dispersion stability.
