Properties of Gadolinium Oxide
White odorless amorphous powder, insoluble in water, soluble in acid. When exposed to the air, it is easy to absorb moisture and carbon dioxide in the air and deteriorate. It is a highly alkaline oxide that can react with carbon dioxide to form carbonate. It is easily soluble in common inorganic acids. The complication is that oxalic acid, fluoride, sulfate and phosphate are very insoluble in water and may cover oxide particles, thereby preventing their complete dissolution.
Gadolinium Oxide Preparation
Using monazite or mixed rare earth ore as a raw material, through extraction and other purification steps, a samarium-gadolinium mixed rare earth solution is prepared. Gadolinium oxalate is precipitated with oxalic acid, and gadolinium oxide is obtained after separation, drying and burning.
