What is ATO?

ATO (Antimony Tin Oxide) is a highly insoluble, thermally stable Aluminum source suitable for glass, optic and ceramic applications. ATO is available in granule, powder, and tablet forms. Oxide compounds are not conductive to electricity. Used exclusively in electronics and optics, antimony-tin oxide, or ATO, is an important component of display panels due to its antistatic, infrared absorbance, and transparent conductivity. Tin(IV) oxide can be used as a polishing powder, sometimes in mixtures with lead oxide, for polishing glass, jewelry, marble, and silver. Tin(IV) oxide for this use is sometimes called "putty powder" or "jeweler's putty."

 

What is tin oxide composition?

Indium tin oxide (ITO) is a ternary composition of indium, tin, and oxygen in varying proportions. Depending on the oxygen content, it can be described as either a ceramic or an alloy. Indium tin oxide is typically an oxygen-saturated composition with a formulation of 74% In, 18% Sn, and 8% O by weight. Tin oxide is a white or off-white powder produced by oxidizing molten high-grade tin metal. It is typically quite pure; some manufacturers have grades up to 99.999% purity. Tin oxide (SnO2) has a very specific application as the preferred electrode for specialty glass-melting furnaces (as for optical glass). This application requires high conductivity and resistance to the corrosive elements in glass melts; corroded electrode material must not discolor the glass.

 

How is tin oxide mined?

The main method of mining large placer tin deposits is bucket-line dredging. The alluvium containing the tin is excavated and transported by a continuous chain of buckets to the interior of the dredge, where it is washed and roughly concentrated. At room temperature, tin is quite resistant to the impact of air or water, as a thin oxide film forms on the surface of the metal. In the air, tin starts to oxidize at a temperature of over 150 °C: Sn + O SnO. Tin oxide (SnO2) is also known as stannic oxide. It can be found naturally as the mineral cassiterite. It is typically a white to off-white and sometimes grey crystalline solid. Some of the applications of tin oxide are given below: Magnetic properties of tin oxide nanoparticles are used in magnetic data storage and magnetic resonance imaging as catalysts, energy-saving coatings, and antistatic coatings.
