Chromium carbide is an inorganic compound with a molecular formula of Cr3C2 and a molecular weight of 180.01. Gray powder, orthorhombic crystal system, a=2.821, b=5.52, c=11.46. The melting point is 1890°C and the boiling point is 3800°C. The micro-Vickers hardness (load 50 g) is 2700kg/rnrn2, and the thermal expansion coefficient is 10.3×10-6/K.

The physical and chemical properties of chromium carbide
Chromium carbide is a gray powder with metallic luster; orthorhombic crystal system; density is 6.68g/cm3; the melting point is 1890℃, the boiling point is 3800℃; it has good wear resistance and corrosion resistance in high-temperature environment (1000~1100℃), Antioxidant performance. Belongs to a kind of cermet.
The production method of chromium carbide
Metal chromium powder carbonization method:
The carbon black is pulverized with electrolytic chromium at a ratio of 13.5% to 64% (more than the theoretical combined carbon amount of 11.33% by mass) to 325 mesh metal chromium powder, which is dry-mixed with a ball mill as a raw material. Add 1% to 3% stearic acid as a lubricant for molding. Use pressure above 1 T/cm2 to form. Put the pressurized powder into a graphite pan or crucible, use a Taman furnace or an induction heating furnace, in a hydrogen stream (the hydrogen dew point is around -35°C), heat it to 1500-1700°C, and keep it for 1 hour to make Chromium undergoes a carbonization reaction to produce chromium carbide, which is cooled to produce chromium carbide. The reaction equation is:
3Cr + 2C → Cr3C2
Uses of chromium carbide
1.It is a kind of high melting point material with good wear resistance, corrosion resistance, and oxidation resistance in a high-temperature environment. It is made of nickel-chromium alloy with cemented carbide particles. The plasma spraying method can be used for high-temperature resistance and resistance. Abrasion, oxidation, and acid-resistant coatings are widely used in aircraft engines and petrochemical machinery components, which can greatly increase the life of the machinery.
2.Used for chromium carbide ceramics. Coarse chromium carbide is used as a melt-blown material to form a melt-blown layer on the surface of metal and ceramics, thereby imparting wear resistance, heat resistance, corrosion resistance, and other properties to the ceramic.
3. As a thermal spray material, used to protect the metal surface below.
4. Additives used to manufacture wear-resistant and corrosion-resistant materials.
5. As a coating for seals, bearings, and valve seals.
