Basic introduction of titanium carbide

Titanium carbide, chemical formula TiC, molecular weight 59.89, gray metal-like face-centered cubic lattice solid. The melting point is 3140±90°C, the boiling point is 4820°C, and the relative density is 4.93. The hardness is greater than 9. Insoluble in water, soluble in nitric acid, and aqua regia. It is stable to air when it is lower than 800℃, it is corroded by air when it is higher than 2000℃, and it can react with pure O2 when it is 1150℃.

Nature and stability
Titanium carbide is stable under normal temperature and pressure.
Materials to avoid: Oxides. Insoluble in water, soluble in nitric acid. It is soluble in aqua regia and nitric acid but insoluble in water.
 
Application of titanium carbide
1. Titanium carbide powder is used for high-temperature thermal spraying materials, welding materials, hard film materials, military aviation materials, hard alloys, and cermets.
2. Used as an additive in thermistor production to improve wear resistance.
3. Titanium carbide powder has a NaCl-type cubic crystal structure. Adding 6% to 30% TiC to the WC-Co cemented carbide will form a TiC-WC solid solution with WC, which can significantly improve the red heat resistance and wear resistance. , Corrosion resistance and other properties, more suitable for processing steel than WC-Co cemented carbide. Alloys such as Ni-Mo can also be used as binders to form tungsten-free cemented carbide, which can increase the turning speed and improve the accuracy and finish of the workpiece.
4. Used as cutting tool materials and additives for metal bismuth, zinc, and cadmium smelting crucibles, to prepare semiconductor wear-resistant films, hard disk large-capacity storage equipment, is an important part of cemented carbide and is used as a deoxidizer in the steelmaking industry It can also be used as a cermet, which has the characteristics of high hardness, corrosion resistance, and good thermal stability.
