Ultraleap, a leading hand tracking company, has raised $82 million

Ultraleap, a leading company focused on hand-controlled interfaces, announced this week that it has secured £60 million ($82 million) in funding for its D-series, which aims to extend its hand-controlled and airborne haptic technology into areas such as the XR.
The UK-based haptic technology company formed Ultraleap, formerly Ultrahaptics, in 2019 after acquiring leading hand tracking company Leap Motion. The new name clearly defines the combination of the unique aerial ultrasonic haptic technologies that now support some of the best hand-tracking technologies in the industry.
This week Ultraleap announced it had raised £60 million ($82 million) in series D funding, New investors Tencent, UK Patient Capital, CMB International, and existing investors Mayfair Equity Partners and IP Group PLC are also involved.
With this round of investment, UltralAP will continue to bring Gemini to different operating systems and increase their investment in tools that enable developers to build more applications using the best interfaces -- your hand. Ultralap will also continue to invest in research and development to further advance its machine learning-based hand tracking technology."
Ultralap is betting that manual tracking will be the main input to the XR and the metaverse. Last month, the company released its latest version.

While ultra lap hand-tracking can be found on a few headphones like Varjo and Pimax, the leading devices that perform hand-tracking, such as Quest 2, HoloLens, and Magic Leap, are known to use their solutions.
However, with the growing number of XR devices on the market and the steady growth of consumer-friendly AR glasses, the company seems ready to finally find the right pair.
Ultralap is also looking to find a home for its technology outside the XR space. The company has long applied its technology to cars, applying it to in-car interfaces as well as outdoor spaces such as exhibitions, marketing installations, and touch-less kiosks.
