Slightly soluble with hot hydrofluoric or sulfuric acid. Solvent in sodium carbonate and molten alkali. Crystal and TaB2 films have a Vickers Hardness around 30 GPa. These materials are resistant to acid corrosion and oxidation up to 700degC.

TaB2 shares the same hexagonal shape as most diborides. (Alb 2, MGB2,etc.). The following space groups also exist: TAB, (orthogonal crystal system, iodized, (I), Cmcm),TA5B6, (Cmmm),TA3B4 IMmm, TAB2, (hexagonal diboride type, P6/mm2)

What is the production process of Tantalum Boride Powder ?

Under vacuum or gas cylinder protection, either the carbon-oxidizing mixture and boron dioxide is made, or the powder is prepared through reaction with boron.

The floating zone method allows for the production of single crystals (about 1cm in diameter and about 6cm in length) of Tab2.

At temperatures over 600degC, TAB (single-phase), a mixture of Tacl-5-Bcl3 and H-2-Ar can be used to deposit a tantalum boride film.

Tab2 nanocrystals can be synthesized successfully by reducing NaBH4 to Ta2O5 with a molecular ratio of 1:1:4 under argon at 700-900degC.
