Blue Coat brings in exec from America to lead Asia Pacific sales

New VP for Asia Pacific will be responsible for regional sales strategy.

The Asia Pacific office of Blue Coat Systems brought in from America a sales veteran to lead the sales efforts in the region.

Blue Coat, which offers Web security and WAN optimisation solutions, named Steve Rowland as the new vice president of sales for the Asia Pacific after a three-year stint as VP for sales for the Americas.

Rowland will be responsible for the company's sales strategy and execution in the region -- tasks he did before in his capacity as VP of sales for another company where he had experience working on the Asia Pacific and EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) regions.

Rowland will be reporting to Kevin Biggs, Blue Coat senior vice president of worldwide sales and field operations.

Biggs said Rowland's appointment comes at a time when the company sees promise in the Asia Pacific region for Web security and WAN solutions.

Regional prospects

"Steve has proven his ability to lead and inspire a Blue Coat sales team, develop new markets and apply great focus in getting our solutions into the hands of customers," said Biggs.

And Rowland voiced out confidence in accomplishing his new tasks. "As companies increasingly move their business applications to the Internet, they need real-time Web security and an optimisation solution that doesn't require appliances in the cloud. Blue Coat is uniquely able to deliver on both these fronts, positioning the company for success," he said.

An engineering degree holder from Texas A&M University, Rowland has worked for other IT companies, such as Workbrain Corporation and BMC Software.
