Unified communications (UC) player Polycom recently announced a new Asia Pacific management team to grow its business in the region. The announcement is the latest in a series of recent global appointments aimed at expanding the business in line with the company's UC Everywhere vision.
The Asia Pacific team is led by Polycom Asia Pacific President Hansjoerg Wagner, who is adding global responsibilities to his portfolio. He will add "senior vice president of global field operations" to his title -- a job that includes global service sales, global sales processes, and Polycom's global cloud initiative.
Wagner has been credited by the company to be responsible for the 24 per cent growth of the company's Asia Pacific revenues, producing "the highest profit margins of any region in which the company operates".
Based in Singapore, Wagner will be supported by:
- Gary Testa, vice president of the global cloud and service provider solutions group;
- Steven Li, who remains vice president of China;
- Michael Chetner, who is promoted to vice president of Asia Pacific, excluding China; and
- Paul Newell, who is promoted to vice president of Asia Pacific field operations.
New to Polycom is IT industry veteran Testa, who will be responsible for driving global sales and business development in cooperation with Polycom's partners. He is also expected to lead Polycom's initiatives for cloud-based and mobility-based UC solution adoption.
Chetner was former country manager for Australia and New Zealand and was responsible for increasing market share for that region.
Li, who remains vice president for the China business, was responsible for driving Polycom China revenues to 11 per cent of consolidated revenues in the first quarter of 2011.
Since last year, Polycom has been announcing corporate movements around the world to position the company for the worldwide adoption of UC.
"Promoting and recruiting these proven leaders bolsters our depth and breadth of talent as we drive Polycom to the US$2 billion revenue mark and beyond," said Andy Miller, Polycom president and CEO. "We believe Polycom is uniquely positioned to capitalise on the rapid adoption of visual communications, to deliver cloud and mobility-based UC solutions, and to drive the network effect of video collaboration."
