Research Now names retail veteran as CTO

Appointment is expected to drive the company’s technology-related initiatives.

Research Now, an online research company, has announced the appointment of a new chief technology officer (CTO) to help drive its technology-based initiatives.

Kevin Murphy was formerly CTO of retailer Bed Bath & Beyond and was senior vice president of retail and alliance services product delivery at First Data Corporation. He also served in executive and IT roles with The Home Depot, Delta Technology and Citibank, N.A. Cards Division.

With his experience, Murphy is expected to lead Research Now's global technology organisation and drive major technology-enabled initiatives. He is also expected to guide the organisation in capitalising on the company's recent acquisition of social media-based and mobile businesses.

Earlier this month, Research Now parent firm e-Rewards said it would acquire Toronto, Canada-based Conversition Strategies, an online social media data collection company.  

Last year, e-Rewards acquired Seattle's Peanut Labs whose survey business was eventually merged with Research Now. Peanut Labs conducts market research through social media sites.

In appointing Murphy, Research Now president and CEO Chris Havemann noted the importance of technology in their business, thus necessitating the appointment of Murphy as CTO.

Havemann said: "Technology is a critical enabler of our strategy to bring the highest quality, innovative data collection and reporting capabilities to our market research clients worldwide. Kevin's deep experience in delivering technology solutions will be a huge asset, and I am delighted to welcome him to the Research Now team."

Murphy has formal education in business management and computer science, including a Master of Business Administration in corporate finance.
