KUALA LUMPUR, 16 MARCH 2010 Malaysia Airlines (MAS) has inked a five-year deal with India's IT services firm Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) for end-to-end IT infrastructure services.
MAS's chief information officer, Faridah Abdul Rahman, said: This move is part of the airline's strategic IT outsourcing programme to transform the airline's IT operations, which is part of MAS's Business Transformation Plan (BTP2) to deliver seamless internal customer experience.
This is in line with BTP2 to align the role of IT to the airline's P&L [profit and loss], said Rahman. One of the key initiatives includes fine-tuning our IT outsourcing strategy to deliver the required business results at lower cost. At the same time, we will continue to work with our key vendors to maximise service delivery and to proactively address other business requirements.
TCS's value proposition to enable us to meet our requirements, she said. [Its] track record with other leading global airlines made it a logical choice to be our partner.
Malaysia Airlines, the national carrier of Malaysia, connects some 40,000 passengers daily to some 100 destinations worldwide across six continents.
TCS is an IT services, business solutions and outsourcing organisation. A part of the Tata Group, India's largest industrial conglomerate, TCS has more than 140,000 IT consultants in 42 countries. The company generated consolidated revenues of US$6 billion for the fiscal year ended 31 March 2009 and is listed on the National Stock Exchange and Bombay Stock Exchange in India.
Certainty of outcome
TCS Asia Pacific head Vish Iyer said the company would undertake IT infrastructure management of MAS data centres, IT networks and IT security. TCS will also set up an ITIL [information technology infrastructure library] V3 compliant service management organisation under a unique build, operate and transfer' methodology for MAS.
