Solutions by Nuance Communications are among the most if not the most widely-used in their respective categories by lawyers and law firms as the legal profession worldwide now transforms itself into a digital business.
This was according to the 2014 International Legal Technology Association (ILTA) Technology Survey, a portion of its results announced in a press statement by Nuance Communictions.
It said the categories of technology solutions where their vendor firm's applications ranked at the top or near the top in terms of usage were document scanning, PDF solutions, speech recognition and dictation , cost recovery and capture solutions.
The ITLA is an international organization based in Austin, Texas and represents the legal profession in the technology sector.
The Technology Survey took place last December and had for its sample size 454 law firms representing over 106,000 attorneys and 217,000 total users.
The press statement said that Nuance eCopy ShareScan software topped the percentage of users in the document scanning category at 22 % of those surveyed.
Likewise, Nuance Copitrak, also in this category, garnered 17% share of users.
On the other hand, 28% of PDF solutions users said they used Nuance's applications (Nuance PDF Pro, Nuance eCopy Paperworks and Nuance Power PDF).
As regards speech recognition software and dictation applications, the survey showed 52% of law firms surveyed used its Dragon Naturally Speaking or Dragon Dictate on their desktops.
At the same time, 16% used the dictation software by way of smartphone apps.
The press statement further said the cost recovery solutions Nuance Copitrak and Equitrac Professional had a combined 2/3 percentage usage among law firms surveyed.
