Inorganic compound iron oxide

What is iron oxide?

Iron oxide is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula of Fe2O3. It is a reddish-brown powder and insoluble in water. It is mainly used as an inorganic pigment for colouring paint, rubber, plastics, buildings, etc. It can also be used as magnetic materials, edible red pigments, analytical reagents, catalysts, polishing agents, etc. On October 27, 2017, the list of carcinogens published by the International Agency for Research on Cancer of the World Health Organization was preliminarily sorted out and referred to. Iron oxide was included in the list of three categories of carcinogens. Melting point: 1565 ℃, boiling point: 3414 ℃, water solubility: insoluble in water, density: 5.24g/cm ³, Solubility: Soluble in hydrochloric acid and dilute sulfuric acid to form+3 valent iron salts; It is insoluble in water and does not react with water. Oxidativeness: reduced by CO, H2, Al, C, Si, etc., at high temperatures.

The use of iron oxide

Magnetic materials: because of its special Superparamagnetism, magnetic iron oxide particles have broad application prospects in Giant Magneto Resistance, magnetic fluid and magnetic recording, soft magnetism, permanent magnetism, magnetic refrigeration, giant magnetoimpedance materials, magneto-optical devices, magnetic detectors, etc. Videotapes generally use needle-shaped iron or iron oxide ultrafine magnetic particles, and nano iron oxide is a new magnetic recording material. Soft magnetic ferrite has been widely used in radio communication, broadcasting and television, automatic control, space navigation, radar navigation, measurement instruments, computers, printing, household appliances, and biomedical fields.

Preparation of iron oxide

Quickly react a certain amount of 5% ferrous sulfate solution with an excess sodium hydroxide solution (requiring an excess of 0.04-0.08g/ml of alkali), and introduce air at room temperature to turn it all into a reddish brown colloidal solution of iron hydroxide, which serves as the crystal nucleus for depositing iron oxide. The crystal nucleus is used as the carrier, with ferrous sulfate as the medium, and the air is introduced. In the presence of metallic iron at 75-85 ℃, ferrous sulfate reacts with oxygen in the mood to form iron oxide (i.e. iron red), which is deposited on the crystal nucleus. The sulfate radical in the solution reacts with metallic iron to generate ferrous sulfate again. Ferrous sulfate is then oxidized by air to iron red and continues to deposit. This cycle is completed until the entire process ends, generating red iron oxide.

Price of iron oxide

Iron oxide particle size and purity will affect the product's Price, and the purchase volume can also affect the cost of Iron oxide. A large amount of large amount will be lower. The Price of iron oxide is on our company's official website.
