Malaysian companies compete in MDeC computer-simulated games

MDeC chief executive officer, Dato' Badlisham Ghazali, said: The MSC (Multimedia Supercorridor) Malaysia Management Game 2009 is an innovative and entertaining way for MSC Malaysia Status companies to cultivate the sound management and decision-making skills and competencies that are essential if our companies are to meet the challenges of today's increasingly competitive global markets.

Badlisham said teams from 10 MSC Malaysia Status companies took part in the two-day competition, which was the first computer-simulated management game organised by MDeC. The winning team was Les' Copaque Production.

Organised by MDeC's Capability Development Department (CDP), the MSC Malaysia Management Game is a team-based competition that tests the managerial, leadership and decision-making skills of players through a realistic computer simulation. Teams run virtual companies and make decisions about production, investment, pricing, finance and marketing strategies. At the end of each round, the decisions of all the teams are fed into a computer that works out the industry developments and market events that would occur.

Making tough decisions

The MSC Malaysia Management Game 2009 gave participants a safe environment in which they could make meaningful management and business decisions in the areas of finance, investment, production, pricing and marketing based on ever changing real-world business scenarios, said MDeC vice president and head of capacity development division, Ng Wan Peng. Through the game, the players have gained valuable practical experience and learnt important lessons that they can apply when they return to their companies.

Badlisham presented the four members of the Les' Copaque Production team with the first prize of RM3,000 (US$837). The second place team from Prudential Services Asia received RM2,000 (US$558) and third place team from ALCIM received RM1,000 (US$279). MSC Malaysia will also sponsor all three teams to the MIM-RICOH National Management Game that will be held in May in Kuala Lumpur.

The individuals who have just participated in this game have received invaluable experience in making the tough policy and strategic decisions that are a part of running an efficient modern business, in particular during an economic downturn, said Badlisham.
