KUALA LUMPUR, 12 OCTOBER 2009 -- The Malaysian design community has received a boost with a new release that offers a more integrated workflow, according to creative software solutions provider Autodesk.
Local creators can better tap the vast opportunity for Asian companies to compete and emerge as the preferred centre for the development of local creative content, outsourcing and collaborative animation services, said Autodesk Malaysia country manager C.S. (Choon Sang) Tan.
At least 90 per cent of all American television is produced in Asia, said Tan. Asian governments also recognise the industry potential, hence injecting significant investments and initiatives to boost resources, talents and infrastructure support.
The creator's focus should be on the creativity and not on the technical aspects of the product, he said. Autodesk has therefore released a more integrated digital production environment in Maya 2010 and the Digital Entertainment Creation (DEC) suites, which comprise Autodesk Real-Time Animation.
He said this is a move by Autodesk towards pipeline solutions and away from traditional point applications. The combination of the DEC suites helps companies save more than 35 per cent of costs when compared to purchasing each product licence separately.
Burgeoning Malaysian creative multimedia sector
Major studios are outsourcing to Asia and there is a burgeoning domestic industry especially boosted by the government agency Medco [Multimedia Development Corporation] creative & multimedia cluster, added Tan. There is a US$44.06 million fund in the 9MP (Ninth Malaysian Plan) to develop the local digital content industry.
For example, Malaysia's Les' Opaque Production's feature Geng' has become Malaysian's second highest box-office film of all time, as well as winning numerous international awards.
In answer to the problem of software piracy, Tan said: Illegal copies of Autodesk products are indeed rampant, though we find that a growing number switch to genuine software in order to benefit from upgrades and full functionality.
"With this full collaborative functionality, artists, designers, 3D enthusiasts, and learners can now create compelling entertainment experiences with impressions that last, he said.
