"If it were not for Trustworthy Computing, we would have had a much harder time making the changes that we had to make. It was a real landmark moment for Microsoft," he added.
Looking ahead, Microsoft predicts that cloud computing and the high-connected society will create vast amounts of data, which creates new challenges for the Trustworthy Computing. One will be how users' privacy can be protected. Also, the threat landscape will increasingly feature targetted attacks, where Microsoft will be publishing and evolving operational security guidance, preparing organisations.
"Trustworthy computing is going to be more important with billions of devices and users in the next 10 years than the last 10 years," said Lipner.
