Malaysian businesses can benefit from more accessible scanning technology, according to US supply chain solutions firm Intermec.

"A new simple, affordable and reliable handheld barcode reader - SG10T imager - is designed to deliver reliability and ease of use to small and medium businesses (SMBs)," said Intermec vice president and general manager, Mike Muller, adding that the new imager used solid-state imaging technology to read all common 1D barcodes and was ideal for entry-level counter top reading needs.

Muller said this new solution would help Malaysian businesses achieve greater accuracy and efficiency in tracking the storage, movement, accounting and sales of inventory and assets. "The SG10T is well-suited for a broad range of local business environments, including retail, government and healthcare. The barcode imager can be used right out of the box, providing intuitive point and shoot trigger ergonomics to eliminate the need for training."

"Malaysian businesses, which require value-priced, general duty scanners in their day-to- day operations would welcome this expansion of the portfolio we can offer locally," he said. "Businesses in the Asian region are increasingly finding themselves in a more competitive market, and are looking for asset tracking solutions that give efficiency and bottom line results."

Muller said the plug-and-play scanner was available with either a USB or Key Board Wedge interface. "The SG10T is also compatible with Intermec's exclusive EasySet PC programming tool, meaning that in a few clicks, the Windows-based utility will produce the programming bar codes necessary for custom applications. For added value, the SG10T is also backed with Intermec's comprehensive three-year warranty."

"There continues to be significant demand for low-cost, high-performance handheld linear imagers globally, particularly in the SMB segment," said research firm VDC Research Group barcode analyst, Richa Gupta. "Intermec's SG10T has been designed to meet this demand while also expanding their portfolio to better support their customers across a diversity of application environments."
