The Philippine Long Distance Company (PLDT) will introduce a "Desktop as a Service" (DaaS) offering that will leverage technologies from VMware.
A press statement by VMware said the DaaS offering by the Philippines' dominant telecom company will enable enterprises to virtually access their desktop applications and data over the Internet on a private network. By doing so, users will be given full access to their respective desktops on devices such as smartphones and tablets.
One of the main benefits of the PLDT DaaS offering will be the ability for enterprises to cut down on costs of deploying and managing complex IT enterprises over traditional PCs. Moreover, the offering will benefit organisations already taking advantage of the growing BYOD trend.
The DaaS joins PLDT's portfolio of Cloud solutions which includes Infrastructure as a Service (iaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), Software as a Service (SaaS), Microsoft Office 365, Contact Center as a Service (CCaaS), Unified Communications as a Service (UCaaS), and the Oracle Suite -- all under the telco's business group called PLDT Alpha Enterprise.
PLDT's DaaS is hosted in PLDT's VITRO data centres, which now have been accorded international certifications, including the ISO 22301:2012 Business Continuity Management System certification from the Societe Generale de Surveillance (SGS).
