The feature is suited for organisations with a heavily distributed workforce or highly secure workplaces.

Indian software and services provider Ramco Systems has added the new SMS based Employee Self Service (ESS) as part of its mobility offerings.

The new feature will enable users to apply leave, raise queries and perform transactions via a text message, without the need to download the app or connecting to the Internet. Organisations, on the other hand, can use the feature to send company-wide communication by SMS.

According to Ramco, the feature will address the needs of employees working in departments that restrict the use of smartphones within the office premises, such as the research and development unit.  It is also suitable for organisations with heavily distributed workforce.

"The SMS based ESS feature is the first step towards building an 'inclusive' enterprise software as it truly takes the mobile experience to every user," said Virender Aggarwal, Ramco Systems' CEO.
