1-Net Singapore is launching a new data centre, which it says is the first of its kind in Southeast Asia designed to meet the emerging demands in content digitization in Singapore and the Southeast Asia region.
The new data centre, 1-Net North, will be Singapore's first Tier III designed and constructed data centre to be certified by the Uptime Institute, and is expected to be completed by last quarter of 2015, the data centre company announced today.
The company said in its statement that it is launching the new data centre to provide a specialized offering to companies looking to focus on digitized content. There is a demand for it as in Southeast Asia alone, the online video audience grew around 8 percent in the past year-a region that ranks higher than the global average when it comes to music, movies and entertainment consumption.
1-Net sources said the company will be looking to tap on other Southeast Asia countries like Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia and Thailand.
"We've seen a shift in the way consumers consume their information over the last few years, and businesses have also responded by changing the way they engage customers. With the opening of this new 1-Net Data Centre, 1-Net aims to become Asia's data centre of choice," said Mr. Wong Ka Vin, Managing Director of 1-Net Singapore.
1-Net North is over 200,000 square feet and will be located at Marsiling. The new building is on a long-term lease from CitySpring Infrastructure Trust (CitySpring), as part of a joint venture with Shimizu Corporation, and the total investment is expected to cost around S$130 million.
1-Net will also be investing an additional S$70 million to fit out the data centre with the technology required to attain the Tier III Design and Construct certification. 1-Net North will be supported by a team of highly skilled and experienced data centre experts who will complement the advanced capabilities of this data centre, the company said in its statement.
The data centre is working towards receiving its Tier III Facility Design and Construction Certifications, and to receive this certification from the Uptime Institute, the entire data centre is required to undergo significant testing for uninterrupted operation during maintenance activities.
