Malaysia-based carrier-neutral data centre operator AIMS Asia Group (AIMS) has been chosen by Taiwanese computer firm Acer to be its outsourcing hub as a move to help consolidate business applications that serve its Asia Pacific business operations.

AIMS chief executive officer Chiew Kok Hin said AIMS would host Acer's regional supply chain management systems, which should enhance its operational effectiveness. "We are pleased to be selected to support global market leaders such as Acer in addressing their regional IT outsourcing needs. With our well-developed infrastructure, more regional companies are considering Malaysia as their regional outsourcing hub."

"AIMS is one of the few data centres in Malaysia that provides a carrier-neutral environment to international carriers," he said, adding that the company has attracted more than 200 carriers and service providers to place their network node within its data centre.

"We are delighted to be working together with AIMS as the outsourcing hub for Acer, serving the Asia Pacific market," said Acer Asia Pacific regional manager for information services, Dr Daniel Tan.

"AIMS is the natural partner for Acer not only for its state-of-the-art facility but also its wide reach with nearly all leading operators in the region," said Tan. "At the same time, we see opportunities where Acer's leading commercial solutions can play a role in enabling AIMS in its ambitions to capture the ever increasing regional IT outsourcing business."
