Music-streaming service Deezer recently launched in Asia with the announcement of US$130 million in fresh funding to bring more local content to the region.
Deezer said the funds from Access Industries will also allow Deezer to focus on global expansion, particularly in growth markets; offer international service; and invest in product innovation.
Part of the global announcement included the opening of offices in Singapore, Indonesia, and other Asian countries, including a free international service to encourage more users to try the service before they move to a paid subscription model.
Deezer CEO Axel Dauchez made the global announcement from Abbey Road Studios, a historic site in London made famous because of notable artists who have recorded there. These artists include The Beatles and Pink Floyd.
Dauchez said in a statement that Deezer is now available in 20 languages and that more efforts will be put to bring the service outside the US where "market conditions do not currently allow for sustainable expansion."
Dauchez added: "We want to take new music to musically isolated countries, breaking down the old music distribution networks. We're confident that by getting more people to try the service - including those not yet aware of the subscription model - Deezer will become the new way to listen to music worldwide."
Deezer said it will get into exclusive partnerships with mobile operators to bring the service to new users who will be treated to an array of music options fit for their local taste.
It added that the subscription model per country or territory will depend on market competition.
The Deezer editorial team worldwide will also grow by over 50 percent to bring more locally relevant content and features to the service, the company said.
At the global announcement, Deezer introduced a new personalised user experience, including access to social media communities where users can get recommendations from friends and music fans; access to music libraries, playlists and charts and top user recommendations.
Founder Daniel Marhely said: "Innovation has been core to the Deezer DNA from its birth... Today we've unveiled a new user experience that makes it easier for Deezer users to discover and share music in their daily lives, regardless of time, place, location or activity."
Deezer is currently available on the Web and other mobile platforms, such as iPhone and BlackBerry.
