P1 announces new pricing package for homes and offices

KUALA LUMPUR, 29 JANUARY 2009 WiMAX telco Packet One Networks (Malaysia) (P1) has said it would end its free modem offer to Malaysians on 1 February 2009, five months after its commercial launch in August last year.

P1 CEO Michael Lai said the company would then introduce new packages from February 2009, where five new subscription plans for P1 W1MAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) users would replace the current promotional packages. The new subscription plans will consist of three Home' plans to meet the needs of personal users and two Office' plans that are designed for businesses.

Lai said that the P1 W1MAX service is now available in selected parts of the Klang Valley, Johor and Kedah. The latest areas to have P1 W1MAX coverage this week include parts of Jalan Kemajuan in Petaling Jaya, Pandan Indah in Ampang, Kota Kemuning and Taman Bunga Negara in Shah Alam, The Summit in USJ, Jinjang Utara and Selatan, Damansara Heights and Bandar Puteri Puchong in Selangor.

Modem subsidy offered

Lai said that subscribers to new 12-month contracts would have to pay a subsidised amount for the WiMAX modem valued at RM999 (US$138).

We strongly encourage broadband users who are within our coverage to seize the opportunity and sign up for the current free modem promotion before the end of this month, said Lai.
