New infrastructure allows Hong Kong Broadband Network to offer more choices of services to business and residential customers.

One of Hong Kong's provider of broadband services has recently selected Texas-based GENBAND to help modernise its infrastructure into an all-IP network.

GENBAND said Hong Kong Broadband Network Limited (HKBN) has selected the GENBAND Genius all-IP platform to enable the provider to offer advanced business and residential multimedia communications capabilities across the region.

HKBN is a subsidiary of City Telecom (H.K.) Limited, an integrated telecommunications services provider. On its website, City Telecom said HKBN is the fastest growing broadband service provider in Hong Kong. HKBN has a fibre service reach of about two million residential homes and 1,700 commercial buildings with services including 100-1000 Mbps broadband access, telephony and IPTV.

Aside from offering world-class IP capabilities, HKBN said the GENBAND IP solution will allow it to reduce operating costs and enhance its unified multimedia communications.

"GENBAND's unmatched network migration expertise and proven GENiUS solution allow us to increase revenue generation opportunities and subscriber bases across both residential and business customers while achieving a 95 percent savings in equipment floor space and power consumption," said Lo Sui Lun, chief technology officer, HKBN. "Through interconnections enabled at the IP level by GENBAND's Intelligent S3 SBC, we also enhance our support for the international direct dialing (IDD) market."

Lo added that HKBN picked GENBAND because of GENBAND's flexible software platform.

Application software

GENBAND said it also deployed in the Hong Kong provider several software to enhance the network capability. These software include the A2 Communications Application Server, the S3 Session Border Controller and the C20 Converged Softswitch software  - all working together to boost HKBN's revenue streams while scaling the network's requirements and reducing the total cost of ownership. These software also allow HKBN to customise its network with greater flexibility, depending on customer requirements.

Said Mark Pugerude, president, global sales and marketing, GENBAND: "Through the GENiUS platform, we are able to seamlessly integrate a host of HKBN's services in unprecedented ways, such as delivering advanced unified communications and multimedia capabilities with our GENBAND Mobile Life and Mobile Office software solutions, along with geo-redundant call control - all from the same platform.

Pugerude added that by investing in the GENBAND solutions, HKBN can transform the Hong Kong marketplace by providing customers new choices from the HKBN range of services. "We are delighted to support these efforts with our IP Network Transformation support and service teams," Pugerude added.

GENBAND's switching, applications, networking and service solutions are deployed in over 600 customer networks spanning more than 80 countries.
