Microsoft launches campaign to help Hong Kong businesses

It will introduce solutions for tough economic times

SINGAPORE, 24 NOVEMBER 2008 - Microsoft has launched its Achieve More' campaign to help Hong Kong businesses weather the economic downturn.

This campaign will introduce technology solutions to help businesses overcome the challenges they face today reducing costs, improving operational efficiency, streamlining processes, and getting the most from existing resources, the software giant claims.

Tough economic times require innovative approaches to saving costs and driving operational efficiencies. There are a number of technologies that are helping companies make the most of what they have today and enable their people to work smarter, said Herman Lam, general manager of Microsoft Hong Kong. The campaign will not only help businesses save money, but it will also enable their people to understand and respond to changing business conditions with greater insight and speed than ever before.

This comprehensive campaign includes direct communications from the general manager to more than 20,000 customers and partners in Hong Kong. It points them to a central Web guide to solutions, and a series of partner and employee readiness communications and programmes.

Help for SMEs

Microsoft is spearheading a HK$1.5 million (US$193,000) programme to help qualified local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to operate efficiently and reduce costs with a total IT suite. These range from free versions of Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2008 to six-month free 100Mbps business broadband service, and from discounted hardware server to full deployment support and free technical consultancy service.

This full-package' support programme provides Hong Kong's SMEs affordable access to the benefits of IT, enabling them to stretch every dollar of investment.

Technologies for large enterprises include virtualisation tools that reduce costs and complexity of their infrastructure by consolidating workloads on a single physical machine; unified communications and collaboration that brings video, voice, e-mail and chat together to cut travel expenses, increase efficiency and employee productivity; and business intelligence (BI), which provides the tools needed to enable better business decisions.

Microsoft has also launched BizSpark, a new, global programme to accelerate the success of early-stage startups. Entrepreneurs will have fast and easy access to full-featured Microsoft development tools and production licences as well as technical support and market visibility, at no upfront cost. The support amount will vary by how the startup architects their solutions; it will be as much as HK$2 million based on a standard five-person software company. BizSpark will be rolled out in 75 countries and regions. Microsoft expects to launch the programme in Hong Kong in December.
