Eurokars Group picks CA for private cloud and disaster recovery

Eurokars IT manager says annual hardware budget can be reduced by up to 20 percent.

Regional car distributor Eurokars Group has signed up CA's AppLogic for its private cloud and ARCserve for disaster recovery initiatives.

A private cloud enabled by the CA AppLogic platform will free Eurokars Group from the complexity of underlying operating systems, while improving hardware resource utilisation rates. A per-processor licensing model ensures predictable linear software costs during future expansion, and pre-configured server templates allow new applications to go live much more quickly.

With CA ARCserve, it centralises network-wide backup of the company's mission-critical applications, and replicates application data from production systems to an active standby system for disaster recovery purposes. The high availability functionality enables Eurokars Group to automatically switch over to the secondary data centre during a major infrastructure failure, thereby helping to avoid the disruption of critical business activities.

"With CA Technologies solutions, we can leverage leading cloud computing and data protection solutions from the same vendor," said Francis Lim, group IT manager, Eurokars Group. "The single platform will ease existing application management issues, and provide more predictable and sustainable total cost of ownership."

Deploying both platforms will cut the company's yearly hardware budget by 15-20 percent over each of the next two years, said Lim.

Eurokars Group needed to strengthen its IT service delivery infrastructure as it expanded into new regions. The IT team wanted to speed up provisioning of new compute resources and gain visibility into IT resource forecasts. The organisation is already operating in Singapore and central Indonesia.

"We have a unique approach called Business Service Innovation that helps our customers to transition from merely managing and maintaining IT to delivering new services that help meet today's fast-changing business demands," said Victor Cheng, vice president, Asia South, CA Technologies.
