When Windows Vista and Office 2007 were shipped, there were two obvious innovations. Firstly, changes to the core Windows product to introduce tighter security and improve reliability. These changes were responsible for the well meaning but annoying user account control. Second, both Windows Vista and Office 2007 focused heavily on usability, aiming to make the facilities that already existed in the products much easier to use. While these usability enhancements, especially for Office 2007, were not to everyones taste they do represent a much broader industry move towards improved usability and aesthetics for software products.
