Brocade takes another two big steps down FC innovation way

The next-generation network vendor announces advanced SAN solution and the industry's highest-density fixed-configuration SAN switch.

On Tuesday (March 26, 2013), networking technology provider Brocade made two important announcements.

The first was of its Brocade Fabric Vision technology, which it describes as both "an advanced storage area networking (SAN) hardware and software solution that maximises uptime, dramatically simplifies SAN deployment and management, and provides unprecedented levels of visibility and insight into the storage network" and "a collection of breakthrough features and tools that enhance the company's purpose-built, data centre-proven Gen 5 Fibre Channel portfolio to achieve industry-leading reliability, scalability and 16 Gbps performance."

The second was of the Brocade 6520 Switch, which is being billed as "the industry's high-density fixed-configuration SAN switch [that also effectively] bolsters the industry's most comprehensive portfolio of Gen 5 Fibre Channel modular, fixed port and embedded solutions."

"Our customers run their most critical applications and store their most important data on Brocade Fibre Channel infrastructure to support highly virtualised and emerging cloud-optimised data centres, they depend on Brocade to continue innovating and developing solutions that solve real-world problems today and that can adapt to evolving requirements into the future," said Jason Nolet, VP of Brocade's Data Center Networking Group, on Tuesday. "[This latest] announcement underscores our investment and laser-focus on leading the Fibre Channel industry with innovative technology and solutions built upon standards-based networking and management."

The Brocade 6520 Switch and Brocade Fabric Vision technology are now available via the company's OEM partners (Fujitsu, HP and NetApp) and channel partners.
