Exabytes, MOLPay boost Malaysian e-commerce

Malaysian Web-hosting provider Exabytes Network (Exabytes), which operates e-commerce service Easy.my, has signed with online payments firm MOLPay to enhance e-commerce in the country.

During the formal launch of Easy.my and announcement of the partnership in Kuala Lumpur, on May 22 2012, Exabytes founder and chief executive officer Chan Kee Siak said the collaboration would provide fast and easy online payment systems for local online businesses and entrepreneurs.

"The challenges for e-commerce entrepreneurs include having to navigate the ICT maze in terms of sites, shopping carts, social media and so on. Online merchants don't want to cope with IT jargon," said Chan. "We also help to bring more traffic to our merchants with promotional theme platforms. We also believe in education and training on setting up and running a business. Next month, we will hold a conference to share e-commerce perspectives."

Chan added the worldwide e-commerce market was valued at US$380 billion, while the Malaysia market is valued at RM3.4 billion (US$1.073 billion), and was expected to grow by 30 percent year on year.

He expected the number of registered merchants on Easy.my to increase from 7,000 to more than 10,000 by the end of 2012. "I believe that the ease of incorporating a secure, online payment capability will also encourage more traditional retailers to move full-fledge into the cashless and digital e-commerce model."

Easy.my, which was soft-launched in July 2011, is owned and hosted by Exabytes, which itself hosts more than 100,000 websites.

 Mitigating fraud

MOLPay chief executive officer Eng Sheng Guan said the partnership would help to bring about a more conducive environment for e-commerce adoption by SMEs (small and medium enterprises).  "Setting up a retail website is insufficient. More and more retailers are looking to have a proper and secure online transaction system to encourage direct payment immediately upon online purchase by their customers. MOLPay provides this end of the solution very easily for Exabytes and its Easy.com merchants."

Eng said that integrating with banks was an extended process, while credit card fraud demanded a high level of security. "Another issue is how to engage those customers without credit cards or those who do not with to pay online with credit cards." 

MOLPay offers a special package to Exabytes customers at a zero setup fee. The payment method includes multiple payment gateways with multiple secured payment gateways integration which accepts manual bank transfers, online bank transfers, payment through 7-Eleven stores and credit cards. "The e-commerce system advocates going green as every transaction is furnished with a PDF copy of invoices and receipts."

"With this partnership, we are realising Exabytes' vision for Easy.my together with MOLPay's technological and prowess, to offer customers a low-cost membership," said Exabytes' Chan.

"With MOLPay's partnership in Malaysia, we are confident that Exabytes can contribute to the development of the local e-commerce scene and there is a new package of zero setup with as little s RM39 (US$12.30) investment for the MOLPay services," he said, adding that Using Easy.my would reduce the number of steps to purchase and offered Facebook integration.
