KUALA LUMPUR, 7 JUNE 2011 - Affin Investment Bank (AIB) has become the first investment bank in Malaysia to receive ISO 27001 certification. The certification was awarded recently by Germany's technical inspection authority, TÜV Rheinland Group.

Speaking of one of the benefits of the ISO 27001 certification, which enhances the existing security platform, and that will further support the existing safe infrastructure of the Cross-Border Trading facility of the bank, AIB chief operating officer, Chua Bee Chin, said: "With the support of the AIB's enhanced IT infrastructure and certified Information Security Management System, AIB's clients are now able to enjoy better trading in stocks on Bursa Malaysia, and through our remisiers, on those listed on several foreign exchanges, via Online Trading Portal 'affinTrade' and the Cross Border Trading Facility respectively."

"The ISO 27001 evidences our information and network security guideposts, which reflect our commitment to ever improve our service delivery and safeguard the interests of our clients," said Chua. "With the fast evolving business landscape in Malaysia and the emergence of new technology, it is important to continuously upgrade and enhance the network and information infrastructure.

He added that in Malaysia, authoritative bodies such as the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission serve to promote the importance of programmes, solutions and certifications that enhance information technology platforms, their security and network reliability. "However, less than 55 organisations in Malaysia operate with an ISO 27001 Certification, out of which there are only four banks."

"Representing Critical National Infrastructure, Affin Investment Bank, in our view, conducts its businesses on a scalable and secure IT platform and we are happy to award the ISO 27001 certification, which is ruled by international standards," said TÜV Rheinland director, Mangred Lottig.

Lottig said that apart from providing an adequate Information Security Management System (ISMS), the ISO 27001 certification provided a model for establishing, implementing, operating, monitoring, reviewing, maintaining, and improving information security management function.

Among others present at the ISO award ceremony were the chairman of Affin Investment Bank, Tan Sri Yaacob Mohd Zain and Manfred Lottig, director, TUV Rheinland.

TÜV Rheinland Group provides technical services in more than 490 locations in 61 countries on all five continents, with a workforce of more than 13,300 and achieved a turnover of € 1.1 billion [US$1.60 billion] in 2008.
