IDA warns SingPass users of phishing emails

Some SingPass users have received an email titled "SingPass account security info verification” telling them that their SingPass PINs have been suspended.

According to a Facebook post uploaded by the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) yesterday, some SingPass users have received an email informing recipients that their SingPass PINs have been suspended.

Titled "SingPass account security info verification", the email urged recipients to click on a link to confirm their email address.

In the Facebook post, IDA said that the email is not legit and not sent by SingPass, although the sender's details were noted to be "SingPass Government [notification@singpass-services.gov.sg]".

According to the SingPass website, phishing is a fraudulent process whereby the 'attacker' attempts to get users to divulge sensitive personal information via a website or mobile application such as their user identities and passwords, as well as credit card details.

IDA warns SingPass users to not fall victim for such emails. Should users receive such emails, recipients should simply delete it and not click on the link. Reports should also be made at singpass-helpdesk@crimsonlogic.com.
