Apple could be planning to introduce its AirDrop wireless sharing tool to the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch with iOS 7, according to a new report.
9To5Mac notes that Apple may not yet have made the final decision about whether the AirDrop feature will be released with the version of iOS 7 that is expected to be unveiled at WWDC on 10 June.
According to the sources, the version of iOS 7 currently being tested has the AirDrop feature integrated into the share menu, alongside the Mail, Message, Facebook, Twitter and Print options. It will enable users to share files between two iOS devices in close proximity with each other, and possibly between an iOS device and a Mac too.
The AirDrop feature has been present in Macs since the launch of OS X Lion in 2011.
iOS is believed to have undergone a design overhaul under the new leadership of Apple design guru Jony Ive, who is said to be pushing for a flatter, more minimalist design for the mobile operating system. See: More iOS 7 details emerge as 10 June unveiling approaches.
