Malaysian school wins regional Intel award

Six schools from Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, South Korea, Philippines and Pakistan receive Intel Teach School awards.

Six schools from Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, South Korea, Philippines and Pakistan have been recognised for their work to transform education through the use of technology, and creativity by the Intel Teach School Awards.

"Educational institutions that use technology creatively and effectively are equipping their students with real-world skills needed in the 21st century," said Intel Malaysia country manager, Prakash Mallya, speaking in December last year. "We're thrilled that Kolej Tun Datu Tuanku Haji Bujang is a Regional Intel Teach School Bronze Award of Excellence winner, and congratulate them on their achievement."

The winning schools were:

  • Kolej Tun Datu Tuanku Haji Bujang, of Malaysia, and Roots School System, of Pakistan, won Bronze Awards of Excellence and technology grants worth US$2,000 each.
  • Crescent Girls School, of Singapore, and Nguyen Binh Khiem Primary School, of Vietnam, won Gold Award of Excellence and technology grants worth US$5,000 each at the Intel® Teach School Awards.
  • Daegu Wolam Elementary School, of South Korea, and Caraga Regional Science High School, of the Philippines, won Silver Awards of Excellence and technology grants worth US$3,000 each.

"Schools play a crucial role in society and the Intel Teach School Awards recognise the teachers and schools that have demonstrated excellence using technology, innovation and creativity to transform education and prepare students for a 21st century career," said  Intel Asia Pacific regional director of corporate affairs, Anjan Ghosh, during the awards presentation in Indonesia. "The winners of the Intel Teach School Awards are role models that help inspire others to enhance the learning of their students through the use of technology."

Winners were selected by a panel comprised of UNESCO staff, educators, and experts on the use of technology in education experts. Judges shortlisted applicants after reviewing their applications and winners were selected following a round of telephone and then face-to-face interviews.
