Malaysia based F&B business solutions specialist Cuscapi has collaborated with security systems provider Symantec to develop a customised security solution for the F&B sector called Cuscapi Managed Security Suite (CMSS), which is intended to minimise downtime of their Transight Point-Of-Sale (POS) machines.

Cuscapi chief operating office Eugene Ng said the CMSS function also allowed only certified applications within the Transight POS environment. "This minimises possible situations of a downtime in POS resulting from security breaches or threats.

A downtime in POS would have a negative impact on the operation resulting in loss of sales and even data which is crucial in the resource planning for any F&B business, said Ng.

"One of the key features of CMSS is the ability of the service provider to manage the security software from a remote terminal," he said. "This allows Cuscapi to launch CMSS as a managed service and currently there are only a few vendors in the market that provides this certified security solution on a managed service basis."

"As CMSS operates on a platform that is constantly updated with a list of potential security risks, it offers complete protection to a POS system," said Ng. "This added element means it is able to detect new threats that are in conflict with the POS environment and prompt immediate remedy without resulting in system intrusion and hence downtime of POS."

 Complex threat landscape

Symantec Malaysia's director of systems engineering, Nigel Tan,  said: "Symantec is pleased to introduce Symantec Endpoint Protection and Symantec Data Center Security solutions to enhance Cuscapi's CMSS offering and provide complete protection to their customers."

"Today's complex threat landscape calls for more robust control and policies at the various incursion points, whether at the endpoint or the server. Backed by Symantec's Global Intelligence Network, Symantec's solutions empowers Cuscapi's CMSS customers to make security responsive to their IT environments and protect their most valuable information assets," said Tan.

Cuscapi's Transight  POS,  a front-end point-of-sale software solution, is used by global clients such as Starbucks, KFC, Pizza Hut, A &W, Nando's and Marry Brown. In the Asia region, clients include BreadTalk, Fish & Co, Jollibee, Auntie Aunt's, Beard Papa's, KyoChon 1991, J.CO, TGIF and Ganso.
