According to technology solutions giant HP, it's recent signing with Malaysia's national R&D agency MIMOS makes it the first and currently only HP AllianceOne and SDN Ecosystem partner in Malaysia and Southeast Asia.

During the signing, MIMOS president and chief executive officer, Datuk Abdul Wahab Abdullah, said, "Joining the HP AllianceONE and SDN [software defined network] Ecosystem programme is yet another way MIMOS is playing a role to advance information technology in the country."

As an AllianceONE and SDN Ecosystem partner, MIMOS will be able to speed up its creativity and innovation through community dialogues and collaboration, said Abdul Wahab.

HP's SDN Ecosystem will also allow MIMOS to provide information and communication technologies of the highest quality, he said.

"This partnership will undoubtedly give MIMOS an edge in developing new competencies and technologies, optimising our business potential and achieving greater growth and profit," said Abdul Wahab.

He said the HP SDN Ecosystem "will provide MIMOS an end-to-end solution to automate the network from data centre to campus and branch."

"SDN is part of the MIMOS Open Innovation Platform, which aims to enrich the Mi-Cloud solution and eventually fuse the MIMOS Open Innovation Platform with more choices, speed, and agility to create custom applications and new capabilities, adding that MIMOS will next focus on developing software defined storage," said Abdul Wahab.

It's all about agility

"I have no doubt this strategic partnership will not only be imperative for the country, but is also critical in ensuring MIMOS keeps pace with today's evolving IT environments," he said. "We will continue to pursue more such partnerships with multinational corporations who are willing to share their technologies."

MIMOS' current cloud technology recipients include TM and Perkeso, said Abdul Wahab. "The centre has created a secure enterprise cloud in various verticals such as public safety, medical and finance."

"Malaysia's efforts to increase digital innovation and adoption, and harness it for economic development require next generation infrastructure solutions," said Morten Illum, vice president and general manager, Networking, HP Asia Pacific and Japan. "We are pleased to welcome MIMOS to the HP SDN ecosystem, which will provide the infrastructure for rapid development of networking solutions that support a broad spectrum of Digital Lifestyle Asia initiatives."

HP Asia Pacific & Japan's head of product category, networking, Justin Chiah said HP's Open SDN ecosystem will feature the SDN App Store, to be available by the middle of this year. "This will help companies to move from traditional networks to more agile SDN networks."

"We have invested in more than 50 switches with an extensive base of upgradeable equipment to make the transition to SDN simpler," said Chiah. "It's really about agility and being able to cope with demands on the network from such uses as UC (unified communications)."
