Maxis launches BlackBerry Playbook in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR - Customers of Malaysian communications provider Maxis can now buy the BlackBerry PlayBook with Maxis Internet Service for their BlackBerry smartphone for as low as RM990 [US$329].

"We are pleased today to launch this beautiful new sophisticated tablet, the BlackBerry PlayBook first and exclusively to our customers," said Maxis chief operating officer Jean Pascal van Overbeke said on 15 July 2011 that the new tablet from BlackBerry manufacturer Research in Motion. "In addition, we are providing them with special offers on BlackBerry Internet Service plans to make their communications experience more meaningful."

"Maxis has consistently been the first to offer the latest advanced devices to our customers and we are proud to be the first operator to introduce the BlackBerry range of phones and wireless solutions in Malaysia in 2004," said van Overbeke. "Since then, we have continued to expand our range of BlackBerry devices, offering unparalleled choice to our data driven customers."

He said Maxis customers from 17 July could buy the new BlackBerry Playbook at the retail price of RM1,599 [US$532] for 16GB; RM1, 899 [US$631] for 32GB and RM2,199 for 64GB [US$731]. "Existing Maxis BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) users can get the PlayBook tablet for as low as RM990 [US$329] when they sign up for a 3 GB PlayBook data plan with their BlackBerry smartphone."

"The BlackBerry PlayBook tablet, Research In Motion's first foray into the tablet arena, is one of the most highly anticipated devices of 2011 in the Malaysian market."
