KUALA LUMPUR, 1 JUNE 2011 - Malaysian government ICT agency Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) has announced the 12 iteration of its annual MSC [Multimedia Supercorridor] Malaysia Asia-Pacific ICT awards (APICTA 2011) along with the introduction of a new category - 'Best of Sustainability & Green Information Technology.'
MDeC chief executive officer Datuk Badlisham Ghazali said this year's APICTA, which is jointly organised by MDeC and Association of the Computer and Multimedia Industry of Malaysia (PIKOM), is themed 'Stimulating Creativity and Excellence in IT.'
"APICTA underlines our commitment to promote locally developed innovative ICT applications," said Badlisham. "We look forward to more entrepreneurs taking advantage of this platform to showcase the Malaysian product's critical acclaim and marketability - all these are crucial steps towards a high-income economy."
"The 11th MSC Malaysia APICTA Awards received a record number of 538 applications across 18 categories, surpassing 383 applications the year before," he said, adding that with a new category this year, he hoped to confer recognition for those ICT products and services that are making a difference in sustainable technology.
"What we'd like to see are products that deliver the capability to address a specific sustainability issue, be it climate change, environmental conservation, or renewable energy management," he said. "It is only natural for ICT to play a key role in enabling low-carbon footprint in operations. We are looking for that unique product in the Asia-Pacific market."
The nomination period for the 12th MSC Malaysia APICTA Awards (www.mscmalaysia.my/apicta) closes on July 16, 2011.
