Singapore Polytechnic partners Cisco, NCS to create Smart Campus

Zafirah Salim | Jan. 20, 2016
The Smart Campus initiative will be driven by three key pillars: Smart Education, Smart Networks and Smart Energy.

SP will also be implementing a campus-wide smart energy initiative, including smart lighting with presence awareness that automatically adjusts brightness to the surroundings. With this deployment, it expects to save more than S$1 million in energy costs annually.

"Besides infrastructure and innovation, one of the critical elements underpinning Singapore's Smart Nation vision is the harnessing of data and making sense of information to gain insights that can transform lives," said Ang Thiam Guan, Managing Director, Singapore and Brunei, Cisco. "The rich variety of data gathered across all three proofs of concepts has the potential to completely transform Singapore Polytechnic into one of the nation's first few smart campuses, paving the way for other educational institutes in Singapore to follow suit and look into harnessing digitalisation to help students learn without limits."

"Transforming to be a future-ready city is not just about building high-tech infrastructures and adopting next generation technologies. The call now requires us to look at urban solutions that can provide real-time information to achieve higher levels of engagement as well as increased productivity. NCS is delighted to play a vital role in enhancing the education paradigm through advanced technology and supporting Singapore Polytechnic's transformation into an intelligent hub to improve the experience of studying and working in the campus," added Chris Tng, Practice Director (Education), Smart & Safe City Centre of Excellence, NCS.
