Tomb Raider 2: Rise of the Tomb Raider for Mac release date rumours: When will the new Tomb Raider game come out on Mac?

Lou Hattersley | Aug. 13, 2015
Here's everything we know so far about the new Tomb Raider game, Tomb Raider 2: Rise of the Tomb Raider, and when - and if - it's likely to come out for the Mac. As well as the Mac release date, we also speculate on the game's UK price and how to buy Lara Croft's new adventure for Mac OS X.

"Today's announcement with Microsoft is one step to help us put Tomb Raider on top of action adventure gaming. Our friends at Microsoft have always seen huge potential in Tomb Raider and have believed in our vision since our first unveil with them on their stage at E3 2011. We know they will get behind this game more than any support we have had from them in the past - we believe this will be a step to really forging the Tomb Raider brand as one of the biggest in gaming, with the help, belief and backing of a major partner like Microsoft."

Tomb Raider 2 for Mac

Don't confuse Rise of the Tomb Raider with the original Tomb Raider 2 game. The original Tomb Raider 2 game for Mac is currently available on the Mac App Store. While it's a great game, it is the version created by Core Dynamics and released in 1996 (the Mac version came out in 1998) - and probably not the one you're looking for.

The release date of Rise of the Tomb Raider depends on whether Feral has to wait until after the exclusivity agreement to develop the Mac version, or can begin development as Crystal Dynamics works on the PS4 edition. We suspect the latter, and hope to see Rise of the Tomb Raider for Mac in late 2016.

Tomb Raider 2: Rise of the Tomb Raider for Mac release date: How to play the PC version on Mac

If, as we expect, Rise of the Tomb Raider comes out on PC some time before the Mac, you won't necessarily have to wait. It's actually fairly simple to run Windows on a Mac, and thereby run Windows software - including games, if your hardware can cope with them.
