US backup solutions firm ExaGrid Systems (ExaGrid) has signed a distribution agreement with Malaysian IT product distributor Digital Paper as a first step to grow market share for ExaGrid disk-based backup solutions with data deduplication.

"The Malaysian market has great growth potential for ExaGrid, and it was vital that we partnered with the right distributor," said ExaGrid sales director international, Andy Palmer. "At ExaGrid, we look for distributors that share our vision to provide the fastest, most scalable disk backup with deduplication solution, enabling customers to permanently shorten their backup window and permanently protect their IT budget as data grows. Digital Paper is able to make this vision a reality for many companies throughout Malaysia and Singapore."

Digital Paper's senior business manager, Alvin Loe, said: "We have a host of globally recognised vendors at Digital Paper, but ExaGrid's offering is unique. It is the only vendor that can offer the channel a solution that permanently shortens and protects the backup window as data grows. This new partnership will allow us to offer the Malaysian market a complete end-to-end data backup and recovery solution."

Palmer said ExaGrid backup systems were designed to meet the needs of companies backing up between 1TB (terabyte) and 130TB of data in a single system.

"ExaGrid's unique performance-based GRID architecture is the only disk backup approach with deduplication that scales with full servers, adding both compute power and capacity, resulting in the shortest backup window that does not expand as data grows, all while eliminating forklift upgrades and product obsolescence," he said. "Only ExaGrid permanently shortens backup windows, instantly recovers files and VMs [virtual machines], and permanently protects the IT budget. ExaGrid's unique approach to disk-based backup delivers all the performance, reliability and security benefits of backing up to disk at a cost that rivals the price of tape."

"ExaGrid customers achieve the fastest backup times because data is written directly to disk, data deduplication is performed post-process after the data is stored, and - most importantly - ExaGrid adds full servers which include processor, memory, disk and bandwidth versus just adding disk," Palmer said.

"This approach ensures that the backup window does not re-explode as it would with other approaches, and it also eliminates forklift upgrades and product obsolescence," he said. "In addition, ExaGrid's GRID scalability enables organisations to store up to a 130TB full backup plus retention in a single system. Performance scales with data growth since processing power, memory and bandwidth are added along with storage capacity, and data loads are automatically balanced across all servers."

ExaGrid has more than 4,500 systems installed, more than 1,400 customers, and more than 300 published customer success stories and video testimonials.
